Dry Hair Care

Dry Hair Tips

With the demanding lifestyle that we lead, hair care has become important. Instead, we tend to abuse our hair by exposing it to harsh hair products and treatments, that cause them to dry out and become damaged. Then we purchase more products to take care of the dry and damaged hair, but this just damages the hair further. What is the solution to this problem? These dry hair tips will tell you how to care of your crowning glory and restore its natural shine.

Dry Hair Care Tips

When our hair is subjected to such harsh treatment, it is bound to give up at some time. It starts to look limp, appear dry and unhealthy. You will have to spend some time and effort to bring it back to its original self, and this can be done by following these dry hair care tips.

Conditioning and Deep Conditioning

Here, conditioning does not refer to store-bought, chemical rich products. It refers to natural products, that do not further damage your hair. Follow any one of these tips that you find suitable, for every hair wash routine, to rid yourself of dry hair.
  • Oil your hair on a regular basis. Many of you may shy away from this process for reasons known to you, but it is the best method of bringing back your natural shine. Ensure you coat your hair, right upto the ends, with either olive, almond, or coconut oil, and that your scalp is also thoroughly massaged with oil. This procedure also gets the natural oil glands in the scalp working, so that dry hair isn't a problem anymore. Leave it overnight and wash your hair with a mild shampoo, followed by a suitable conditioner the next morning.
  • Take about two drops of safflower oil in your hands, and rub it all over your hair, right up to the ends. Leave it on, and notice the difference it will make to your dry hair. 2 drops of oil won't show, and it is safe without having the hair looking sticky.
  • One of the best tips for very dry hair, is to use vinegar as a conditioner. Combine one part apple cider vinegar to seven parts water, and rinse your hair with it after a wash. This slowly reduces the dryness and brings a natural shine to the hair.
  • Many have found beer to be a great remedy to eliminate dry hair. All you have to do is pour about half a can of beer on your hair after it has been shampooed. Let it remain for a few minutes, and then rinse it out with water. If you feel beer just does not work, you may follow up the beer rinse with the use of a mild conditioner.
  • Eggs are also great for dry hair care. Combine 3 eggs, 2 tbsp olive oil, and 1 tsp vinegar together. Apply this entire mixture on your hair, from the roots to the tips. Cover your hair with a plastic shower cap for about thirty minutes. Follow it up with your normal shampoo and conditioning routine.
  • Avocado and banana mashed together is another great conditioner for dry hair. 1 of each combined together, spread on hair for an hour, and then rinsed away is sure to get rid of your dry hair problems.

Prevent Further Damage

If your hair is severely damaged and dry, there are few things you are going to have to give up for some time, apart from following the above mentioned treatment procedures. Follow these tips for damaged dry hair, which will slowly bring your hair back to its original lustrous self.
  • Discard your chemical-rich hair products. Chemicals in hair products are very harsh, and tend to do more harm than good. This includes your shampoo and conditioner. Keep them away, at least until you rid yourself of all the dryness. Opt for a mild shampoo and conditioner, and stay away from clear shampoos. Opt for creamy shampoos instead, without any alcohol. Another matter of concern is how much shampoo and conditioner you use. Don't pour out as much shampoo and conditioner as you like on your hair. An amount the size of a quarter is enough to take care of your hair.
  • No more hair treatments. Keep away the hair dryer, the hair straightener, the hair curler, and any other products that produce heat to be used on the hair. Heat strips the hair of its natural moisture and leaves it looking dull and drab. Also, avoid spending too much time in the sun, as the harsh sun rays can also cause severe damage to the hair. Keep your head covered while traveling.
  • Don't use hair dye or bleach on your hair if it is dry and damaged. It is the worst way of treating your hair when it is hanging on to every drop of moisture to survive. Even hair dry and bleach have an effect similar to the hair products that are known to damage hair.
  • Brush your hair less if it is dry and damaged, as it is most vulnerable at this time, and is bound to lead to hair breakage and hair loss. Keep the brushing minimal, and use a wide toothed comb for this purpose. Avoid brushing your hair when it is wet. Instead, brush it before washing it. That way it will tangle less after the wash.
  • Lastly, avoid junk food, and eat foods rich in proteins, as these are natural sources that help repair damaged hair.
Adhere to these dry hair tips, especially the ones where you have to give up on your favorite hair styling products, only until your damaged and dry hair is replaced by its natural self. After that, you can use these products, but in a limited manner, and while using the above mentioned treatment methods at least once a week, to keep your hair healthy, lustrous and beautiful!
